Instructions
The NSCMIRTP mandate is to ensure applicants are qualified to practice as a medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals (MIRTP) in Nova Scotia. A license to practice will be granted if the applicant meets the requirements of NSCMIRTP Regulations section 8 and applicable policies.
In order for this application to be processed you must:
- Complete this application in full
- Upload all required documents (see document list below)
- Pay all applicable fees
Important Note:
You must have a NSCMIRTP practicing license before starting employment orientation. It is a violation of the NSCMIRTP act and/or regulations to practice as a MRT or DMS without a license and a fine or penalty will occur. Please refer to sections 33(b) of the NSCMIRTP Act and sections 29(1)(d) and 38(4) of the NSCMIRTP Regulations.
All correspondence from NSCMIRTP will be sent via email. You must use an email address that you monitor regularly when registering with the College. Please add info@nscmirtp.ca to your safe senders list. If you would prefer a PDF application form, please contact NSCMIRTP.
Temporary (Provisional) Class: A temporary (provisional) license allows the MIRTP to temporarily practice as a MRT or DMS in Nova Scotia, with conditions and restrictions.
Active Registration (No Restrictions) Class: Allows the MIRTP to practice as an MRT or DMS in Nova Scotia without any conditions or restrictions.
Active Registration (With Restrictions) Class: Allows the MIRTP to practice as an MRT or DMS in Nova Scotia with conditions or restrictions.
Required Documents
Documents must be uploaded in PDF or JPG format. Alternatively, they can be sent by regular mail to NSCMIRTP but this will considerably lengthen the time for processing.
New Graduate from an accredited program in Canada:
Note: If you are missing a document, please upload a PDF/JPEG stating the document is pending. This will allow your application to be submitted and assessed for any other deficiencies.
- Confirmation letter on official letterhead from an accredited MIRTP program confirming successful completion of a MIRTP program or copy of a MIRTP diploma/degree or transcript stating degree/diploma conferred. For those graduating from DAL SHS a letter will automatically be sent to NSCMIRTP. Please upload a a PDF stating you are a Dal graduate.
- National Exam. Proof of passing the national exam or confirmation letter for registration to sit next writing of national certification exam Please note this must be notification that you received from CAMRT or SC and must include your name, the date of the exam and the modality of the exam.
- Canadian government issued photo identification (Canadian passport, Driver’s License, or another Canadian issued photo ID)
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, proof of landed immigrant resident status, or valid work permit)
- Vulnerable Sectors Check from current jurisdiction you live in. You will need to print form from website https://nscmirtp.ca/applicants/canadian-educated-applicant. Link to forms is located under section “E-Demonstration of Good Character”
- Proof of Professional Liability Insurance that meets NSCMIRTP PLI policy requirements (private policy, or CAMRT, or OAMRS, or SC policy).
- Evidence of NSCMIRTP English language requirements. (Refer to the English Language Proficiency policy NSCMIRTP Policy and Position Statements | Nova Scotia College of MIRTP.)
- Completed acknowledgement and undertaking form located on NSCMIRTP website under Canadian Educated New Grad Section for those that have not yet passed the national exam.
MIRTPs that are currently licensed in another regulated province (Labour Mobility)
- Canadian government issued photo identification (Canadian passport, Driver’s License, or another Canadian issued photo ID)
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, proof of landed immigrant resident status, or valid work permit)
- Vulnerable Sectors Check from current jurisdiction you live in. You will need to print form from website https://nscmirtp.ca/applicants/canadian-educated-applicant. Link to forms is located under section “E-Demonstration of Good Character”
- Proof of Professional Liability Insurance that meets NSCMIRTP PLI policy requirements (private policy, or CAMRT, or OAMRS, or SC policy).
- Evidence of NSCMIRTP English language requirements. (Refer to the English Language Proficiency policy NSCMIRTP Policy and Position Statements | Nova Scotia College of MIRTP.)
- CFTA form sent directly from current licensing college
MIRTP practicing in an unregulated province or coming from a regulated province but not currently licensed.
- Proof of completion of an accredited MIRTP program (diploma/degree, transcript, registrar office letter).
- Proof of passing the national entrance to practice exam in discipline of application
- Canadian government issued photo identification (Canadian passport, Driver’s License, or another Canadian issued photo ID)
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, proof of landed immigrant resident status, or valid work permit)

Internationally Educated MIRTP - That do not meet the Expedited Pathway
If you have completed the assessment process through CAMRT or Sonography Canada and successfully written the entry to practice exam continue with application process. If you have not yet submitted your signed acknowledgement form outlining steps of the licensing process to NSCMIRTP please contact info@nscmirtp.ca

- Canadian government issued photo identification (Canadian passport, Driver’s License, or another Canadian issued photo ID)
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, proof of landed immigrant resident status, or valid work permit)

Internationally Educated MIRTP that meets Expediated Pathway
If you meet the requirements of the expedited pathway, please submit your application with the following documents.
- Verification of registration form. This can be downloaded from our website under Internationally Educated New Applicants | Nova Scotia College of MIRTP
- Submit two pieces of identification showing your legal name. If your name has changed, you may be required to submit a name change document such as a marriage certificate. Notarization of these documents is not required. Identification options include: a birth certificate, passport, nexus card, driver’s license, Canadian government-issued ID, citizenship card (Canadian or International)
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, proof of landed immigrant resident status, or valid work permit)
